Description
The Turbosmart Gen4 Range of External Wastegates are designed with minimum size & flow in mind. Smaller and lighter than the previous model, the Gen4 CompGate40 features Turbosmart’s unique locking collar design for reduced size and quicker spring changes. (Options from 3psi to 26psi available)
What is the first rule of boost control?
Set your boost cut limit. Mistakes happen, Failures occur and the cheapest Insurance for any setup is ensuring you incorporate a carefully setup boost cut limit. Unsure what this is or how to do that? Then we recommend reaching out for professional and qualified assistance.
Will this Wastegate fit my existing manifold?
Turbosmart External Wastegates are designed around peer flange orientation, meaning basically: Yes. If you have a 40mm valve, then our 40mm CompGage40 will fit & same goes for the 45mm HyperGaet45, ProGate60 etc.
How do I change the spring(s)?
You will need the locking collar tool as supplied in the box. You also need to observe the instructions and apply pressure to the top cap before you can remove the collar – This is part of the design & an important anti-vibration measure.
What size are the reference fittings?
The reference ports are 1/16” NPT. We have a range of AN adapters and high temp push-lock fittings available in the Spares and Accessories Tab.
What am I doing wrong? The valve seat does not seem to sit flush to fit the clamps.
Your Turbosmart External Wastegate is designed to have pre-load and you will need to push down & apply a small amount of force (the higher the base spring pressure, the higher the force) the get the V-band on. It is designed this way to ensure maximum seat pressure.
Why has my Wastegate housing changed Color?
Heat in your engine bay can affect the anodized finish of your wastegate, this does not necessarily mean it will ever effect performance or reliability. Engines & engine bays get extremely hot sometimes and this discoloration can happen over time and use. If it has happened particularly quick however, it may be worth looking at your setup and ensuring there is adequate air flow to the wastegate – There is a different between use and abuse.
I cannot get control of boost, what is wrong?
The number 1 issue with boost control is the reference / hookup method. Get back to basics: Try using the simplest hookup method (Boost Reference to lower port of your actuator) and performing a power run? What boost did it make?
If you are making the boost the springs fitted would suggest, then the gate is working as expected and you need to look at your hookup method and boost control strategy.
If you are making less boost, then you need to check for leaks in your pipework and hoses.
If you are making more boost, then you look at your manifold design for gate priority or the actual size of gate you are using, versus the bypass requirements.
